Outline of Research:
This project aims at doing development of basic technology and applied technology research in Smart Space towards realization of next-generation computing based on Human-to-Device Interaction between a user and a device. The Smart Space is space, where various sensors and devices, and networks inter-connecting them are embedded, has shown remarkable achievement in an experiment equipment, "Box-in-the-Box.

By using not only the Smart Space built as a building, but also by installing the required number of the Smart Spaces at low cost as a part of furniture or interior design, any spot can be intellectual space. We call the intellectual space Smart Furniture. Moreover, we develop various applications including the applied technology of the Smart Furniture. In the Smart Furniture, a computer, a camera, a display, position information, and sensors for position information and temperature are built in, and a wireless network interface enables communication with other Smart Furniture. Between Smart Furniture, each piece of Smart Furniture recognizes another mutually and autonomously, and can build Smart Space for supporting users. Furthermore, a research team is doing research and development in the application for the human support using the Smart Furniture, and development of public service application, entertainment application, etc.
